Links and Resources

Listed below are cool places to find information, get freebies, have a good laugh, enjoy life.
None of the links are listed in any particular order. God forbid I should try to alphabetize them.

Skip the crossword puzzles, and surf the net, I always say. Happy hunting.

Facebook
facebook.com
Stay current with friends and families by joining. I fought it myself, but our kids and grandkids use it extensively. You can chat with them, see photos, participate in posting conversations. Select friends only to see your profile. Be careful who you friend.

Dr. Oz
doctoroz.com
A fun site filled with current medical information by Doctor OZ. There are videos, blogs, interactive and very informative.

Mayo Clinic
mayoclinic.com
I use this extensive data base to compare drugs, check interactions, look for information on aches and pains my friends or myself is experiencing. There's a symptom checker, and once you have a name of something you can do a google search on it as well. A good friend self treated his frozen shoulder once he had a name for it and could locate therapy activites.

AARP
aarp.com
Probably the best know advocate for aging Americans. They let me join and include my life partner in the membership. We opted for a 3 year membership. Their website has tons of information, and they'll send you e-mails with news and current discounts. When traveling, an aarp card will get you discounts on motel rooms and meals, along with road side assistance insurance.

Google Search
There's a google search box at side of this blog. Or you can go to google.com to type in whatever you want to know more about. Enter specific words, or even just a jumble of words to pull up all sorts of interesting material.

Psychology
psychologytoday.com
Look for a disease, read some therapy news, see whats trending in mental health. I enjoy reading at this site, if for no other reason than to find out no one is normal.

USA Today
usatoday.com
I enjoy this newspaper and reading it online can be very enlightening.

Amazon
amazon.com
You can buy just about anything at Amazon, but its known especially for books, movies and music. I find obscure titles, books and dvds here much cheaper than any other book store. If you just need a book in readable condition, sometimes its as little as a penny. Keep the shipping in mind, however, which sometimes is free, other times, still cheaper than running around looking for that unusual product. Especially if you're in a small town, using Amazon.com can save tons of money on gas.

More Magazine
more.com
For the older woman, a realistic approach to writing for the mature woman.

CoolWorks
coolworks.com
A job posting site to cool places like resorts and National Parks for everyone. A special link is for Older and Bolder. I used this site to meet a bunch of people doing the same thing I was: seasonal work in cool places. A section of the website, called My CoolWorks is for employees or wannabe employees to connect, chat, blog, post.

National Parks
National Parks
Check out this government website to find a park near you, research offerings, news at a favorite park. You can get a lifetime park pass for $10 once you turn 62. Passengers get into the park with you, too, so its the best deal going for vacation planning.

Local Newspapers
newsvoyager.com
Find a local newspaper at this site, and check out upcoming events, local news, and classified ads.

Library
A great way to get online without having to maintain a computer yourself. Check out books, magazines, and movies.

Thrift Stores
Volunteer and meet new people, find good books and crafts.

Senior Center
Different rules for different centers. Sometimes you can't even accompany someone unless you're 55, married, or volunteering. Swiming pool, classes, meals for cheap, depends on what your nearest center has.
